Exploring Advices and Queries

Venue: Wandsworth Quaker Meeting House, 59 Wandsworth High Street, SW18 2PT

Please join us for what we hope will be an interesting and stimulating series of discussions exploring individual Advices and Queries and how they inform our lives. This first session kicks off with a general introduction and a look at A&Q #1 - 'Take heed, Dear Friends, to the promptings of love and truth in your hearts. Trust them as the leadings of God whose Light shows us our darkness and brings us to new life.'

The second session will be on Monday 27th January and will look at A&Q #10: 'Come regularly to meeting for worship even when you are angry, depressed, tired or spiritually cold...' and A&Q #15: 'Do you take part as often as you can in meetings for church affairs?...Do you consider difficult questions with an informed mind as well as a generous and loving spirit?...'

Exploring Advices and Queries

Venue: This session will be held in the home of Carol and Oliver Griffiths. Please use the contact us function if you need our address

Opening up Advices and Queries (aka the Little Red Book) is always worthwhile but if we have been opening it for years it might be easy to let the familiar words wash over us with little engagement.

Equally, if one is new to the contents, one might wonder what it is all really means. In both cases we can be fairly certain that the power and point of each passage will be interpreted felt differently by somebody else – and that they might seen something in it that we have not.

So here is an opportunity to take a deeper dive into these familiar (or not so familiar) lines in the company of others, nourished by hot soup and warmed by a log fire.

We will be looking at A&Q10: Come regularly to meeting for worship even when you are angry, depressed, tired or spiritually cold. In the silence ask for and accept the prayerful support of others joined with you in worship. Try to find a spiritual wholeness which encompasses suffering as well as thankfulness and joy. Prayer, springing from a deep place in the heart, may bring healing and unity as nothing else can. Let meeting for worship nourish your whole life.

And, given the text, you can be sure of a warm welcome even if you do feel angry, depressed, tired or spiritually cold (although we hope this not the case).

Soup from 6:30pm, discussion from 7pm, carriages from 8pm.

Please use the contact us form for more information and for details of how to find us - I'm sure you appreciate we cannot post our address on this open forum.

We very much hope that you can join us on the 27th and look forward to hearing your thoughts and insights.
