30 June 2026 at 19:00 – 20:00 Learning about Quakers
Venue: Online
In this session exploring texts from Quaker faith and practice, we’ll be diving into 23.88: We have … in our Quaker history a lesson for our own lives of the meaning of Christian citizenship. You can see there a two-fold strand constantly interwoven: one, respect for the state as representing authority in the community: and the other, desire to serve the community through the state and in other ways, but along with that, the desire above all to serve the Kingdom of God: this means that we must be willing, when loyalty to the Kingdom of God demands it to refuse the demands of the state and show the highest loyalty to the state and the best citizenship by refusing demands that are wrong, because it is only in that way that the conscience of our fellow citizens can be reached, and in the end a better law come into being. T Edmund Harvey, 1937
All are welcome to join us for what we are sure will be a stimulating and thought-provoking discussion.
You can read a brief summary of each of our earlier discussions of Quaker texts here.

Venue: Esher Adult Education Centre, The School House, 19 Esher Green, Esher, KT10 8AA
Join Meeting for Worship with Esher friends followed by a 5 mile walk through leafy Esher, ending back at the Adult Education Centre for a (late) picnic lunch. We anticipate the walk will take 2-2.5 hours.
Everyone is welcome to join - for Meeting for Worship, for the walk and for the picnic. Whatever you decide to do you will be most welcome.
The proposed route is along the footpath down Lammas Lane, leading to the West End Recreation Ground. Follow the woods alongside the River Mole leading to a path through the allotments to West End Green and the pond. Pass Garsons Farm and on to generally level paths through Esher Woods part of the local nature reserve. On reaching the river again there is the choice of a generally flat route along the ‘The Levels’ or a more challenging path alongside the river. Meeting up again at the large pylon with very good views over Surrey. Opportunities to see attractive scenery, mature woodland, many birds, and all sorts of plants.
The return journey through a different part of the woods takes one back to another pond and West End Green. There is then a choice of roots – the quite steep path (300m), an adjacent but still quite steep road (Park Close), or back the way we came down Lammas Lane (Longer but not so steep).
Please contact us for more information.
